Water level in Volga River reached 64 meters mark
The water level in Volga River has reached 64 meters mark last week. This information has been provided by the Director of Nizhny Novgorod Water Utility Service Alexander Bayner during operational meeting of the City Government.

64 meters mark is considered to be normal for the current period. Such result is the first starting from May 2014.  Critical shoaling has turned out to be a great threat for all waterworks that could stop their operation anytime during summer. However such situation is no longer a threat for the city.

Alexander Bayner also said that water utility service specialists have indicated decrease of water consumption. It means that all city heating systems are full with necessary amount of water.

The level of water in Volga River has decreased in 2014. Experts say that this is due to low amount of rains during winter which is followed by droughts in summer.

It should also be noted that water buses have stopped transportation of passengers due to critical shoaling of Oka and Volga Rivers in Nizhny Novgorod.
