Victims of Domestic Violence can use Special Crisis Flat in Nizhny Novgorod

The first crisis flat will be opened in Nizhny Novgorod in November. It is aimed on helping women and children who have become victims of domestic violence. This idea was initiated and implemented by the Women’s Crisis Center in Nizhny Novgorod.

Local authorities are completing all necessary formalities at the moment. As soon as everything is ready, the information about location of crisis apartment will be available to all centers of social protection in the capital of Volga region.

Marina Nikolayeva who is consultant in the Social Policy Ministry said the three-bedroom flat is absolutely ready for everyone who suffers from domestic violence. It is a perfect part-time shelter. It is equipped with all necessary house hold techniques and additional facilities for a living. Not more than three women with their children will be allowed to stay in this apartment.

Experienced and qualified psychologists will consult residents of this flat throughout the whole period of their stay. At the same time people will get all necessary juridical support. Teachers will also work with children. Victims of domestic violence can stay in this apartment for two months. This period is more than enough for lawyers and representatives of other social and legislative services to protect people from tyranny in accordance with the law.

At the same time people who stay in this apartment will be provided with food and other things in case of necessity. The initiators of this project were totally supported by local businessmen who are ready to provide any financial help.

Moreover crisis apartment will be equipped with video cameras in order policemen could immediately react in case a domestic torturer finds out location of the flat somehow. At the same time location of crisis apartment is kept in secret.

It is still unknown whether such project will be popular with victims of domestic violence. This is due to the fact that local social policy centers have never used this tool before.
