“We have a number of threats that we're dealing with, but Russia could be, because of the nuclear aspect, an existential threat to the United States," as Reuters quotes an USA Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee’s interview at the annual Reagan National Defense Forum in California. At the same time, the Under Secretary of Defense of the USA Frank Kendall has pointed out that the Washington’s policy was to play in responding to threats in Asia, the Pacific and the Middle East before, now it’s more focused on Russia. “Their behavior has caused us ... to rethink the balance of capabilities that we're going to need,” he said. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford has said that Moscow’s objective is to confront NATO and to undermine its credibility and what is more, to prevent the US army from having a military presence around the world. "They are operating with a frequency and in places that we haven't seen for decades," as quotes Duford’s words Reuters. According to American political analysts, Russian’s cyber safety, nuclear capabilities, missile defense and the outer space developments would require the corrections in the draft defense budget for 2018 after the Donald Trump’s inauguration on 20th January. |
