In 2010 russian engineer Igor Milovidov found the painting in the attic of his house. It was a portrait of a man 45 years old. In the corner was the artist's signature - KM. Further investigation revealed that the probable author of the work is Kazimir Malevich. It was the famous soviet avant-garde painter, art theorist, philosopher and the founder of suprematism. The portrait depicts Yakov Yurovsky. The man was the head of the execution of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and his family. In 1932, Malevich worked on an unrealized project — pattern "Sotsgorod". It was the last period in the artist's work: at that time he wrote mainly portraits a realistic character. The canvas with the image of Yurovsky proves it. At the conclusion of the Moscow scientific research center of Tretyakov Gallery, the picture is genuine. After a successful restoration the painting was purchased by a private collector from Estonia. His name has not been disclosed. According to experts, the cost of Malevich's works to date is tens of millions of dollars. It is likely that next year the masterpiece will be exhibited at Sotheby's auction. |
