Trump has confirmed that Pentagon will be headed with ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis
The elected US president has confirmed the information about plans to appoint the former Marine General James Mattis as Secretary of Defense.

“We are going to appoint 'Mad Dog' Mattis as our secretary of defense. But we’re not announcing it until Monday, so don’t tell anybody”, as Reuters quotes Trump’s statement made during the post – election tour in Cincinnati.

Earlier Trump’s representative Jason Miller has tweeted that there is no decision on who will be the Secretary of Defence yet.

66-year-old Mattis was considered as the most likely candidate to head the Pentagon. 17th November he was meeting Trump. The conversation continued for more than hour. The elected president has described a former Marine as true general.

The future head of the Pentagon served in Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq. The ‘mad dog’ nickname he has got for an intolerant attitude to Islamic extremists. The appointment will get support within the military, according to agency’s forecast.

There weren’t any candidate in Pentagon that would be disposed to Russia, as Politico points out. Mattis has expressed concerns about Russia’s position about NATO earlier.
