The international monetary Fund raised its forecast for global economic growth. According to a new report of the Fund as of immediate prospects of the world economy, published in anticipation of the spring session of the IMF and the world Bank, this year is expected to increase by 3.5%, and in 2018 — by 3.6%. The head of the Fund Maurice Obstfeld said: “The improvement in forecast is mainly due to the good economic performance in Europe and Asia, as well as the expected acceleration of U.S. economic growth”. It is expected that the US GDP in the current year will increase by 2.3% this year and 2.5% next. In October 2017, it predicted growth of 3.4%. The current report entitled: “Gaining momentum?”. For the UK forecast for the current year increased to 2%. For Germany the GDP growth forecast is 1.6%. In General, the Eurozone in the current year is expected to increase by 1.7%. The IMF noted that global economic activity is growing on the background of the long-awaited cyclical recovery in investment, industry and trade, but the urge not to forget about the “persistent structural barriers to a more powerful recovery.” The Fund has raised the forecast on growth of Russia's GDP this year to 1.4% from 1.1% in the previous forecast. |
