The Ice Menorah will be lighted for the first time ever in Nizhny Novgorod
Celebration lighting of the Ice Menorah has taken place yesterday in Nizhny Novgorod. The ceremony was held right opposite the Puppet Theatre at 5 p.m. The information has been officially provided by rabbi of Nizhny Novgorod synagogue Menachem Rabinovich.

It will be the first time when ice menorah will be lighted in Nizhny Novgorod.

The Head Rabbi of Nizhny Novgorod Shimon Bergman has also taken part in the official ceremony of Hanukkah menorah lightening together with the Head of City Administration Oleg Kondrashev.

Visitors were able to take part in an exciting fire show and taste free donuts with coffee.

Menorah is a golden 7-lamp illuminator which was in the Tent of Meeting while Jews were wandering in the desert in accordance with the Bible. Later it was brought to Jerusalem and kept ion one of the temples until the Second Temple was destroyed. It is one of the oldest and the most ancient symbols of Judaism and Jewish religious attributes. At the same time the image of menorah is considered to be one of the most spread Jewish emblems. It is also displayed on the national symbol of Israel.

Hanukkah is a Jewish traditional holiday that starts on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar. It was firstly celebrated in the 2nd century B.C. in order to commemorate cleansing of the Temple, the dedication of the altar and the temple service renewal by Maccabees.
