A Twitter user asked the Tesla CEO if he was considering developing a social networking site where free speech is the top priority and where propaganda is headlined. "I'm seriously thinking about this," Musk replied. Lately, Musk has been making a lot of criticism about social media and their policies. According to him, Twitter undermines democracy, because the company would not adhere to the basic principles of free speech. Musk asked his followers if they think Twitter adheres to those principles. "The outcome of this vote is important," he wrote. "Choose carefully."In total, more than two million people voted, of which 70 percent voted 'no'. It is not known whether Musk is actually building his own social media platform. In the past, billionaire initiatives more often arose with an idea on Twitter. Recently, several platforms have been set up where freedom of expression is seen as the highest good. For example, Donald Trump started the network TRUTH Social, after he was banned from Twitter. Twitter competitors Gettr and Parler have also been set up. None of the platforms have so far managed to attract many users to them. |
