The Burial of Christ Canvas will be displayed after restoration in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
The Burial of Christ Canvas is a unique piece of art of a famous Russian artist Nikolay Koshelev. It has been returned to exposition of Nizhny Novgorod State Museum of Art on the 26th of September after it has been totally restored. The canvas was painted in Rome in 1881. Later it was presented to the local museum in 1896.

The canvas was firstly presented to journalists and media. It has not been displayed on public for more than 80 years. It was sent for restoration in the middle of 90-s of the XX century. Restoration works have been permanently postponed due to lack of financing. However they found it possible to find necessary financial support in order to complete the restoration process. Representatives of the museum prefer not to speak about the sum which was spent on all restoration works. However the General Director Roman Zhukarin noted that it cost them a fortune.

The canvas is rather huge. That is why a separate showroom is necessary for displaying this piece of art. “This is a unique canvas as it was created for the artist and does not have a single seam”, - says the artists who restored the painting Marina Korotayeva.

The administration of museum is planning to display other works of the famous artist in the nearest future. For example, Cathedral of Christ the Savior sketches will be shown to the public as well as Palestinian travel sketches of Nikolay Koshelev.
