The Russian space agency Roskosmos is withdrawing from the international project with the ISS space station. Roskosmos director Dmitry Rogozin said on state television on Saturday that the decision was submitted to the Russian government for approval. The international partners will then be informed. Russia will then fulfill its obligations for another year, Rogozin said. According to him, this is contractually agreed. Among other things, Russia provides fuel for the ISS and helps to keep the space station in orbit and prevent collisions with space debris. "The IIS is a 500-tonne structure and it largely depends on us whether that hazard does not suddenly land on Paris or London," Rogozin said earlier this month. Russia, Europe, the United States and Japan jointly manage the ISS. Rogozin had wanted to stop all this cooperation at the beginning of april in response to the Western sanctions against Russia. The European Space Agency ESA already suspended missions to Mars and the moon that were to be carried out together with Roskosmos. |
