Russian largest gas company Gazprom has started consulting Indian oil and gas ministry and companies on natural gas supplies to the country. September 13 Vitaly Markelov, deputy board chairman of Gazprom, will take part in the meeting of the second task group in New Delhi, Russian news agency TASS reports citing Russian deputy energy minister Yuriy Senturin. Commenting on the progress in discussion of gas supplies, Russian deputy minister told media that the two countries are now studying feasibility of the deal. He also added that the study make take at least one more year. “We are now making a research. Today we are discussing theoretical possibility of supplies. The rout has not been chosen yet, we are imposing the opportunities and feasibility. The project itself is quite a challenge, because Russia and India have no common borders – there are a number of countries and unrest regions like Afghanistan between our countries,” Senturin explained. Earlier Senturin told that India is interested in importing up to 25 billion cubic meters of Russian gas per year. |
