Russia may join the talks about output freeze only after OPEC members discuss it

Russian officials will be allowed to join the negotiations about the ways to settle global oil market only after OPEC members discuss the question among themselves, Bloomberg informs referring to its three anonymous industry sources.

The long-awaited meeting of the 14 members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries is to take place meet in Algiers on 28 September on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum in Algiers next week.

The Russian delegation will be led by the country’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak. They will attend the forum and hold meetings with the officials from other countries but experts suppose that Russian participants may leave Algiers before the OPEC meeting occurs.

Earlier this month Russia showed its support to the production freeze but agreed that Iran should be offered an exception to the deal.

“Iran is starting from a very low position, connected with the well-known sanctions in relation to this country,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview to Bloomberg. “It would be unfair to leave it on this sanctioned level.”
