Russian gas supplier Gazprom is ready to get back to talks with Ankara about the Turkish Stream project. As the company’s deputy chairman Alexander Medvedev said on Tuesday, Gazprom is now waiting for the Turkish partners to make a next move. Earlier the same day Russian and Turkish officials also discussed the project, but no decision was reached. The Turkish Stream is a sizable gas pipeline running from Russia to Turkey via the Black Sea on to the border between Turkey and Greece. It was expected to deliver Russian gas to southern Europe with an annual capacity on 63 billion cubic meter of gas. Announced in December 2014, the project was suspended in 2015 due to a moratorium on any relations with Turkish partners after Ankara’s shooting down a Russian military jet in November. The Moscow-Ankara relations seemed to thaw this June but the attempted coup against Erdogan highlighted security concerns over any fuel shipments. |
