Russia’s gas producing company Gazprom may resolve its antitrust issue in Europe by the end of the month, Reuters informs citing its sources familiar with the matter. The news agency reminds that Gazprom was accused of overcharging its European customers and blocking rivals. The European Commission is sure that the Russian giant is breaking the rules on fair play settled in the regional market. The source expects that Gazprom Deputy Chief Executive Alexander Medvedev and European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager may meet in Brussels at the end of this month and ink a deal. Still the unnamed person doubts whether there will be reached an agreement. Commission spokesman Ricardo Cardoso declined to comment the matter to Reuters. "We cannot anticipate the timing for the next steps in the investigation," he said in an email. The negotiations with the European Commission about the five-year-old case and preventing a possible fine that may reach 10 percent of Gazprom’s global turnover are now in their final stage. |
