“Pokrovsky days” will take place in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

“Pokrovsky days” have already turned into a pleasant traditional for all citizens of Nizhny Novgorod. This time the celebration will take place fr om 11th to 19th of October. It will be dedicated to Protection of the Holy Virgin that is considered to be one of the most important orthodox holidays in Russia. It is celebrated on the 14th of October.

The celebration will start on the 11th of October at 1 p.m. with procession of youth which represent different nations. The march will be held along Bolshaya Pokrovskaya street, Minin square and Verhne-Volzhskaya embracement.
In addition national Nizhny Novgorod region traditions and customs festival will be arranged during these days.
Different youth dancing collectives will perform during this festival.

Celebration of Protection of the Holy Virgin also includes opening of Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children Library wh ere all guests will have a chance to visit thematic exhibitions that are devoted to orthodox religion and culture.
Special scientific conferences and meeting will be arranged during this event. At the same time all guests will be able to visit celebration concerts.

Interesting information

Protection of the Holy Virgin holiday is celebrated mostly by Russian Orthodox Church on a fixed date which is the 14th of October in accordance with new calendar. This holiday is considered to be one of the most important events by all parishioners.
