Nizhny Novgorod Red Book of Endangered Species is getting thinner
New edition of Nizhny Novgorod Red Book of Endangered Species will be published in 2014-2105. The information is provided by “Volga Region Interfax” agency.

This list of endangered animals appeared in the region in 1996. It should be republished not less than once in 10 years in accordance with the existing law.

New Red Book of Endangered Species of Nizhny Novgorod region will include 287 species of animals, 179 species of plants, 46 species of mosses and 50 species of mushrooms. More than 140 species from this list need additional care and the most thorough control of the population.

At the same time new edition of the book will become thinner. The following species do no need additional control and care anymore due to increase of their population. They are golden eagle, osprey, white-tailed eagle and several rare species of waterfowls such as black-throated diver. Such improvement of the situation around these animals is possible thanks to a number of biotechnical measures which include artificial nests which resulted in the increase of the population.

38 species of animals and plants will be excluded from the Red Book of Endangered Species of Nizhny Novgorod region.
