Nizhny Novgorod Hospitals will confirm Medical Costs with Checks
New pilot project has been launched in Nizhny Novgorod region. In accordance with this project all patients have a right to get a special receipt which indicates the total sum of money that was spent on his treatment in a particular medical establishment. This project is aimed on informing citizens on how much compulsory medical insurance costs for the government.

The check itself should not be considered as any financial document. It is just a piece of information with total amount of money that was spent on wage of the doctor who provided patients with medical care throughout the whole treatment course as well as additional medicine and other costs which are necessary for keeping patients in the hospital. This project will make it possible to compare the price with the quality level of medical services. By the way, getting this check is not obligatory. However more than 90% of the region used their right and asked for such receipt.

It should be mentioned that the average cost of treatment course in a hospital costs about 16 000 rubles. The price will also depend on department and way of treatment. For instance, ENT department is cheaper in comparison with cardiologic department.

Such project has already been launched in 7 Russian regions. Commercial hospitals which have a quota in compulsory medical insurance program take part in this project along with other hospitals and medical institutions. This project is also aimed on making Russians lead a healthy way of life.

If the project is successful, all medical establishments will be obliged to provide their patients with such receipt in the end of the treatment course.
