Morocco may become a player in the natural gas market by the year 2019, according to a new report published by Interfax. This week the Sound Energy Company announced the successful drilling of the Tendrara Gas field to a depth of 3,459 meters, Morocco World News says. Sound Energy is sure that the nest drilling exercise will definitely prove that the field contains something in between 3 to 4 trillion cubic feet of gas. “Did the multi-TCF potential surprise us?” she asked hypothetically. “No, it didn’t, but, what we were looking for was a commercial flow rate of say 3 to 3.5 million scuffs [standard cubic feet or ‘scf’] per day, and what we’ve actually got from that first well, the T6 well, is a flow rate of 17mln scuffs per day. It definitely surpassed our expectations.” Morocco is well-known as a net energy importer country and has always been at the forefront of the charge towards clean energy sources. There is the world largest Noor solar power plant in the desert city of Ouarzazate that can provide more than a million people with power. The third phase of the most significant Morocco’s project is expected to be completed in 2018. |
