The government of Nizhny Novgorod is planning to spend more than 5 million rubles for trapping and sterilization of stray dogs in 2015. This money will be enough to cure about 4 900 dogs. The information has been officially provided by the Head of Management Improvement Department Vitaly Kovalev. Local authorities have spent 9 million rubles on trapping and sterilization of stray animals last year. They planned to cure more than 6 thousand dogs. However the program has been implemented only in April 2014. That is why only 3 000 of animals have been sterilized. The Head of the Department also said that the main goal is to take away all dangerous animals from the street including dogs and cats. They are threatening citizens. Such measures will be taken only for aggressive and sick animals which can’t be cured. The rest of animals will be sterilized and let go after 10 days of rehab period. At the same time representatives of animals’ protection organization noted that more than 300 dogs are sterilized every month in Nizhny Novgorod. They include digs of popular breeds which were left by their masters. More than 20 animals are able to find their new homes every month. |
