More than 30 000 Nizhny Novgorod Citizens swam in the Ice Water in Epiphany
More than 30 000 people have taken part in traditional winter swimming on Epiphany in Nizhny Novgorod region this year. Such statistics has been officially provided by Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region.

In accordance with available information more than 70 spots for winter swimming have been arranged. 7 of these spots were located in 6 districts of Nizhny Novgorod.

These spots were equipped with special wooden stairs in order to provide people with maximum safety and comfort while swimming. In addition special rescue points were also available in case someone feels bad. Professional rescue teams and doctors were ready to provide any necessary support and medical care.

More than 697 policemen, doctors and rescuers were providing necessary safety measures during Epiphany winter swimming along with 198 units of special techniques. At the same time 182 representatives of Ministry of Emergency Situations were also ready to provide with necessary help and protection using 80 units of special techniques. There were about 34 000 Nizhny Novgorod citizens who decided to dive into the ice holes on Epiphany in accordance with the old tradition.

Speaking about the rest of Russia there were more than 1.5 million people who decided to swim in spite of cool weather on the 18th of January. This is 200 000 people more in comparison with 2014.
