Large cyber hack at UM: 'Criminal attack not excluded'
Maastricht University is the victim of a major cyber attack. Various websites and the mail system no longer work.

Due to the attack, the university has no access to much scientific data. The library and the Student Portal, among others, are offline.

"The university has been hit by a serious cyber attack in which almost all Windows systems have been hit," said spokesperson Gert van Doorn of Maastricht University. "We no longer have access to data. Our scientific data is extra protected in another system. We are investigating whether cyber-attackers can get to it. The expectation is that this is very difficult."

Work is currently underway to solve the problems. "We do not exclude a criminal attack," the spokesman emphasizes.
