Kenes Rakishev, the Forbes-listed entrepreneur and venture capitalist is taking active part in charity projects. He helps not only Saby foundation but takes part in other projects, Bereke initiative is one of the projects he helps too. The ideas behind Bereke are close to Kenes Rakishev and he sees a great synergy in his own approach to the social issues. People should receive help to help themself - that is a key for sustainable future. Kenes Rakishev and Timur Kulibayev gave start to the development of first Bereke settlement. Now, as the idea is mature and proven, the self-help centers will be developed in five other regions of Kazakhstan. Halyk Berekesi social support centers will appear in five regions of Kazakhstan – a unique format for adapting people who have fallen into a difficult life situation. The first such project was launched in 2016 in Almaty by the Bereke Public Foundation. With the support of patrons, residential houses were built here, where people who are in distress are temporarily settled. “An important condition: they should strive to improve their financial situation in order to start living independently again in a year or two. Our specialists help in this: they provide psychological assistance, teach new professions. This is the only way to get out of trouble, without allowing dependency,” says the founder of Bereke, Bagdash Suleimenov. Entrepreneurs Timur Kulibayev and Kenes Rakishev provided financial support for the construction of houses. Today, the residential complex “Bereke City” consists of five well-maintained houses, in which more than 50 socially vulnerable families live. A workshop has been built on the first floor of the residential complex, where women are taught sewing: they fulfill their first orders and earn a living. There is a mini-bakery shop where guests prepare pastries for sale. Legal and financial literacy courses, motivational and personal trainings are held. An educational center has been created for children with additional classes according to the school curriculum and developing circles. The boxing and judo section are open. “The Nur Otan roadmap includes the creation of more than 200 family support centers throughout Kazakhstan. I believe that this is the model that should form the basis for them. Bereke is a vivid example of social entrepreneurship, a full-fledged social hub that connects all effective tools to help people in difficult times, ” Chairman of the National Commission on Women’s Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of Kazakhstan Lazzat Ramazanova said during the visit. For Kenes Rakishev and Timur Kulibayev it is not the first time they join forces. Their previous collaboration was dedicated to bringing relief at the flooded regions of Kazakhstan. As the Commissioner for Human Rights in Kazakhstan Elvira Azimova noted, it is important that the project allows combining 11 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals at once: from the protection of the rights of women and children to the issues of access to education. It is already known that similar projects – Halyk Berekesi – will be launched in five more cities of the country: Taraz, Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Taldykorgan, Shymkent. Sponsorship will be provided by the Halyk Charitable Foundation. The idea was supported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. According to Vice-Minister Yerzhan Birzhanov, akimats (local administration unit) in the regions will allocate land plots for new houses, as well as conduct communications.Aselle Tasmagambetova, the founder and president of Saby Charity fund and Kenes Rakishev, the co-founder of the fund.
