Japanese exchange launches bitcoin exchange in the U.S. market

That happened after receiving approval from regulators, such as the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS).

Announced today, the step completes a private beta version, in which the exchange working with 2000 initial users. The official launch also comes a few months after bitFlyer first showed its intention to open its doors in the U.S. At that time, the startup said that it had received a work permit to operate in 34 states.

As part of today's launch, bitFlyer revealed that it had been granted BitLicense from regulators in New York. Formalized in 2015, the BitLicense platform was an early attempt to control companies working with cryptocurrencies in the U.S.

According to CEO Yuzo Kano, BitFlyer was proud to had been granted a BitLicense for doing business in the state of New York. "This is a nod of approval from one of the most influential state financial services regulators in the nation."- he added.

Although the exchange will initially allow for only bitcoin trading, bitFlyer indicated that it would move to add support for additional cryptocurrencies over time.
