Canada is an oil rich country listed as the world’s sixth largest oil producer. However Canada provides only about four percent of the total daily crude production and therefore does not have any significant influence on global crude oil prices. According to the National Energy Board, 71 percent of Canadian crude production was exported to the U.S. and only two percent was exported to overseas markets. Canada has been increasing its crude oil exports to the Unites States since 1993. In 2015, four out of every 10 barrels of oil imported by the United States were from Canada, according to a report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). In April global media informed that Canada hit record level of crude oil exports to the United States in 2015. The country increased shipments to 3.2 million barrels a day of gross crude oil, which is 10 percent higher from 2014. Oil production in Canada is concentrated in two major areas. They are the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, which includes Alberta, Saskatchewan and parts of British Columbia and Manitoba, and offshore eastern Canada. |
