High-Speed Backbone between Moscow and Kazan will pass through Airports
Russian Railways Consumer Council offered construction of high-speed backbone between Moscow and Kazan through Strigino and International Kazan Airport. The final destination is the downtown of Kazan according to current project. However specialists are eager to prolong the backbone up to international airport.

Branch line that will connect railways station with airport has been already completed. It meets all necessary standards and requirements. This information was officially confirmed by representatives of Russian Railways. Such change will not result in price increase of the project.

According to the new project and technical task high-speed backbone is supposed to pass through Strigino Airport in Nizhny Novgorod. Administration of the city has already reported about construction of multi-modal railway junction which is located in local airport. It will attract 6 million passengers from Moscow.

Tender on construction of high-speed backbone will be announced by Russian Railways during the first quarter of 2015. However the question of financing is still open at the moment. The approximate price of survey, project and construction works is about $16 milliards.

“High-speed backbone will certainly give our region development new boost of energy. We are very interested in implementation of Moscow-Kazan backbone project. At the same time we hope that it will be finally completed and launched before the start of FIFA World Cup 2018.  In this case this backbone will turn out to be the main element of transportation system during the competition. It will be able to connect 3 cities where the championship will take place. They include Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan. We will do our best in order to complete this project”, - said the president of Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov.
