GLONASS got its Domain Zone in the Web

The system will be able to delegate its first technical domains within 24 hours.

IANA administration of online address space has approved of implementing new domain gdn zone of the upper level. This domain zone will be administrated by Russian company called “Navigation and Information Systems”. After being approved GLONASS navigations system will be able to delegate its first technical domains within 24 hours. Such information was provided by the Director of Web Domain Coordination Center Andrei Kolesnikov.

The abbreviation gdn stands for Geo Domain Network/ Registration of one name will cost $15 per year. Special offers and discounts are also available in case user needs a longer term registration of a domain name in this zone. Maximum registration term is 10 years.

Every 3 month the number of new registrations is increasing by 5.9 million users. That is why it is becoming harder to choose an appropriate domain name. There is a lack of space in such traditional zones as .ru, .com and .net.
The Guardian newspaper was also eager to get domain name in .gdn zone.
