So, in 2017 this beverage was sold for a total amount of 4.9 billion euros. According to representatives of the French Champagne Committee, the leading importing countries were the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. At a press conference on the export of champagne, committee members said that over the past 12 years the turnover of the drink has increased by one billion euros. At the same time, outside the European countries, sales of a sparkling drink raised twice during the same period. Representatives of the committee note that last year the export of champagne for the first time in history exceeded the volume of consumption of the product within the country of origin. Sales to Europe accounted for 26% of total turnover, to other states - 31%. Also, French officials stressed that China is a promising market for the export of the drink. According to legend, the monk Perignon was the first inventor of French champagne, but there is no scientific evidence for that. It is known only that this man was engaged in improving the formulation of the drink. |
