eBay online shopping service reported about the fact that it agreed to transfer personal data of Russian users to server that is located on the territory of Russian Federation. It means that eBay is the first US company which agreed to take such measures. According to available information the head of eBay Russian department Vladimir Dolgov recently held a meeting with the Head of Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications Antonina Priezzhaeva and told her about the fact that company prepares to transfer personal data of users from Switzerland to Russia. Such measures will be taken by September 1, 2015 when law about transferring of personal data will come into force in Russia. It also stated that representative of PayPal payment system also took part in this meeting. It should be noted that this payment method once belonged to eBay. It is said that PayPal has equal position in such situation. The head of Russian eBay department said that American side got all necessary answers on questions connected with new law about transferring of personal data that will come into force in September. This was the main goal of the meeting. On the other hand eBay has not revealed the exact amount of data that is planned to be transferred. Nothing is known whether company is going to buy its own servers or rent them. |
