The Republican candidate confirmed Thursday that he would approve the Keystone XL pipeline but he expects to modify the terms. President Barak Obama rejected the project last November, saying that it would undermine the American global leadership in fighting climate change. Nevertheless, it is believed that not only the American companies, but also the workers will benefit from the KXL project if the pipeline is built. Moreover, Americans would rather use U.S. and Canadian oil through Keystone XL than continue importing it from Venezuela and the Middle East. Trump also claimed to reduce regulation on the energy industry, if elected, to make the companies more competitive. Trump’s plans deepen the contrast between him and his Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Both of them are knows as advocates of renewable energy technology as a way to fight climate change. |
