Deloitte published data on the number of Blockchain projects

In its new report, "The Evolution of Blockchain Technology: Insights from the GitHub Platform" and published today, a professional services firm has brought information from a development platform that reproduces code for more than 86,000 blockchain initiatives, including large projects such as bitcoin.

In general, the study shows the progress of the development of the technology through various implementations relating to 2009.

Deloitte’s report shows that to date, in 2016, the most new blockchain projects were presented,(both by organizations and individual users. For comparison, in 2015, less than 15,000 were created. The data for 2017 include only the first six months of the year, but over this period almost 25,000 GitHub projects were created.

The report also included data on the top blockchain code repositories on GitHub. Of those, bitcoin has seen the greatest activity: 627 participants and almost 12,000 followers. Go-ethereum (or Geth), the software client, supported by the non-profit Ethereum Foundation, has attracted 149 contributors with 5,603 followers, to date.

Another important point in the report is that most of the blockchain projects that are currently visible are largely inactive in GitHub.
