Controversial decision in Ukraine has been made

It is really a controversial if not to say perplexing idea to construct a gas pipeline of capacity 5 Bcm/year between two countries which are going to decrease or better totally stop gas flow from their ongoing main gas supplier – Russian company Gazprom.
Poland declared that intention previously. Now Ukraine is going to eliminate gas import from Russia before 2020. Truth to say, Poland said that they are not going to prolong the existing contract. And that is all.
Next year the constructing of the 99 kilometer pipeline is due to start and plans are that it will be finished in three years.
The idea is that it will help to diversify Ukraine’s gas supplies and integrate its transportation system into the European one. As for the forecasted gas suppler no word was said but that the pipeline will give an access to liquefied gas via LNG terminal in Swinoujscie.
Now the demand for Russian gas in Europe increased greatly. Prices are attractive and new projects with the purpose to increase Russian natural gas transportation are implementing. That is why the decision looks like controversial if not to say perplexing.
