Coal production fell by 11.3%  in Ukraine in the first quarter
This was reported by the state statistics service in the report on industrial production in Ukraine. While production of coal in March 2017 compared to the corresponding period in 2016 decreased by 17.7% and amounted to 2 million tons. We will remind, coal production in Ukraine declined significantly since the beginning of hostilities in the Donbass in the spring of 2014, in fact there was a large part of the coal mines of the country.

It was reported that in late January, the activists, many of whom are veterans of the ATO, there are several deputies began an informal blockade of Donbass. And on March 15, the national security Council during the emergency meeting it was decided to suspend the movement of goods (including coal) through the line of collision in the Donbass. The decision was on the same day, promulgated by the decree of the President of Ukraine. In January-February 2017 compared to the same period in 2016, the coal companies increased production of raw coal by 11.3% (of 750.8 thousand tons) – up to 7 367,9 million tons.

Coking coal production decreased by 24.2% (338,3 thousand tons) – to 1 million 58,5 thousand tons, while thermal coal increased by 16.5% (891,3 thousand tons) – up to 6 million 309,4 thousand tons. In 2016 compared to 2015 year, Ukraine increased production of raw coal by 2.8% (to 1 million 119.4 thousand tons) – up to 40 864,1 million tons. Including coking coal production increased by 0.4% (36.3 thousand tonnes) – up to 8 million 361,4 thousand tons, energy 3.4% (1 million of 83.1 thousand tons) - up to 32 million 502,7 thousand tons.
