Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro says he has recovered from the coronavirus after he became infected earlier this month. He announced this himself on Saturday by showing the negative result on Twitter. The President does not write when he took this test. Nor did he give any further details. Bolsonaro reported to have tested positive for the corona virus in early July. In a second test a few days later, this result was confirmed. The 65-year-old president was tested after he developed a fever. Bolsonaro said that after the first positive result, he feels well and takes hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug of which it is not yet clear what effect it has on the virus - if any. After the first positive result, he was quarantined. Bolsonaro has always marginalized the coronavirus. He previously said that if he got sick, he would feel nothing more "than a small flu". He also urged to quickly reopen the country's economy. His wife and her two daughters had previously tested negative for the corona virus. Brazil is one of the most affected countries with nearly 2.3 million corona infections and more than 85,000 deaths. Only the United States has more infections and deaths from the coronavirus. | |
