Booking.com has to pay a fine of 14.9 million euros to the Russian government. The Dutch travel platform will be fined for abusing its dominant position in the Russian market, reports the Russian regulator FAS. The Dutch company has long been under the microscope of the Russian competition authority. It started an investigation into the activities of Booking last year after a major Russian employers ' organization filed a complaint. In that study, the regulator found that Booking imposed contract conditions on hotels, guesthouses and inns that could not be accepted. The accommodations were allowed Booking.com offer their services elsewhere not cheaper than on the website of Booking.com. The Russian regulator saw this as an abuse of power and asked Booking to stop doing so. The company didn't. As a result, the regulator has now imposed a fine of millions. Booking.com is not available for comment yet. |
