Blue Origin lost lawsuit over moon landing contract for NASA

In April, NASA decided to offer only SpaceX a contract for the construction of the lunar module. Blue Origin disagreed with that decision and went to the federal judge.

Bezos wanted to win the contract together with aviation and defense companies Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Draper. He hoped, through the American government watchdog GAO, to increase the pressure on NASA to cancel the earlier decision to opt for SpaceX. However, the public authority rejected the complaint in July.

According to the GAO, NASA is free to choose, because the space agency has less budget for the mission than it previously thought. That is why NASA has entered into an exclusive contract for $ 2.9 billion with SpaceX of businessman Elon Musk.

Blue Origin says that the lawsuit"exposed important issues in the procurement process". "Safely returning astronauts requires an unbiased procurement process," said the aerospace company.

Due to the lawsuit, NASA and SpaceX had to suspend construction of the lunar module in August. NASA has announced that it will resume construction.

SpaceX hasn't responded to the verdict yet.
